Russian Airstrike on Kyiv Intercepted by Ukrainian Air Defences

Kyiv: Ukraine’s air force reportedly intercepted and destroyed three cruise missiles and eight attack drones deployed by Russian forces on Sunday. This marks Russia’s first attack on Kyiv in the past 12 days.

The Ukrainian air force confirmed the elimination of “all air targets,” including eight Iranian drones and three Kalibr cruise missiles. The Shaheds were launched from the southeast, while the Kalibr missiles originated from the Black Sea, as stated in the air force’s official statement.

As a result of the attack, three private houses in the Kyiv region suffered damage from falling debris. Additionally, one individual sustained a leg injury, according to Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv regional military administration. These incidents highlight the increasing frequency of aerial raids in Kyiv, which experienced relative calm earlier this year but faced recurring nightly attacks throughout May.

Ukraine has sought assistance from Western allies to bolster its air defence capabilities, enabling it to effectively counter and neutralize waves of Russian cruise missiles and drones. This growing proficiency in defence measures has allowed Ukraine to fend off potential threats and safeguard its airspace against hostile incursions.
