G7 Nations Pledge Enduring Military Support to Ukraine Against Russian Aggression

G7 nations have pledged unwavering military support to Ukraine in its battle against Russia’s invading forces and to prevent any future conflicts. The group, consisting of the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan, expressed their commitment to work with Ukraine on long-term security agreements, focusing on developing a capable defence force and deterring Russian aggression. The G7 aims to provide Ukraine with modern military equipment across various domains, including air defence, artillery, long-range fires, armoured vehicles, and combat air capabilities.

Furthermore, the global powers assured Ukraine of swift military and financial assistance in the event of another Russian armed attack. They also emphasized their willingness to impose economic and other consequences on Russia if it initiates another conflict once the current one concludes. President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine appreciated these promises but emphasized that they should not substitute the country’s ultimate goal of joining NATO.

While NATO has refrained from extending a formal membership invitation to Ukraine, its member countries, led by the United States, are focused on reassuring Kyiv of their support. Concerns about potential entanglement in a war with Moscow have made NATO cautious in offering concrete commitments. Nevertheless, Western leaders are determined to demonstrate to the Kremlin that their support for Ukraine will remain steadfast.
