‘Statue of Oneness’, 108 ft Statue of Adi Shakara Unveiled in MP’s Omkareshwar

Bhopal: ‘Statue of Oneness’ or ‘Ekatmata Ki Pratima’, a 108 ft statue of Adi Shankaracharya was unveiled by Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Omkareshwar on Thursday.

Omkareshwar, located on the picturesque banks of the Narmada River, is around 80 km away from the city of Indore.

Omkareshwar is famous for being home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, the sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh had earlier given its approval for Rs 2,141.85-crore project for the statue of Adi Shankaracharya along with a museum in Omkareshwar.

This statue marks the third major statue built in India by the government.

Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Statue of Equality on the outskirts of Hyderabad to commemorate the 11th-century Bhakti saint Sri Ramanujacharya on his 1,000th birth anniversary. In 2018, PM Modi inaugurated the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Kevadia in memory of former deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
