Father Celebrates Daughter’s Homecoming After Divorce with Band-Baaja

Kanpur: A father in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur resorted to a unique feat as he welcomed his daughter back home after divorce with much fanfare and a band in tow.

Anil Kumar celebrated his daughter’s wedding in the same way he had sent her off after her wedding. According to Anil Kumar, he wanted his daughter to start a new life after divorce with pride. Anil Kumar is an employee of the BSNL.

His 36-year-old daughter Urvi married a computer engineer serving the Palam Airport in New Delhi in 2016. The couple had a daughter while they lived in Delhi.

Alleging that she was being tortured for dowry, Urvi moved court for a divorce and the court granted the couple a divorce on February 28.

For her homecoming after escaping from the alleged dowry torture, Urvi’s father made arrangements for ‘band baaja’ to send a message to the society that daughters are not to be ignored by parents after their marriages.

Initially, seeing the celebrations, their neighbours thought that Urvi was getting remarried. But when they found the motive behind the celebration by her father, they were overwhelmed. Now Urvi wants to take a break to start life afresh.
