Couple Leaves Hotel’s Taps & Gas Running For 25 days; Know Why

Seoul: Some people utilise strange methods to exact revenge on those who have “inconvenienced” them. In the heat of the moment, they don’t even think about the consequences of their behaviour. One such incident apparently occurred in South Korea, where a Chinese couple left an Airbnb home’s gas and water taps running for up to 25 days, costing the host USD 1,570 (about Rs. 1.28 lakh).

The couple made a 25-day reservation for a villa in Seoul and paid the full amount upfront. They were completely unaware of the location of the hotel in the city. They insisted on having the reservation cancelled when they realised the venue was in the outlying suburbs. The host informed them that their request had been denied because the reservation had already been made.

Despite their compulsive compliance, they planned to exact revenge on the host by causing him to suffer a massive financial loss.

They turned on all taps, electric appliances and gas and left them running indiscriminately for the entire 25 days while making sure there were no CCTVs installed on the property.

Due to their constant travels across the nation, they reportedly visited the property only five times during the 25-day reservation. Every three to four days, they would make one brief visit to the property, lasting no longer than five minutes.

Nothing out of the ordinary was discovered by the host as the couple was departing. He didn’t realise how the pair had taken advantage of him until the gas company contacted him to inquire about a sharp spike in gas consumption.

He informed Airbnb, but they declined to get involved, stating that it was between him and the pair. The couple had already departed the country at that point.

The host was left with no choice but to pay the enormous debts.
