Cabinet Approves Establishment of 157 New Nursing Colleges

New Delhi: The Union government has given the go-ahead for the co-location of 157 new government nursing institutions with the nation’s existing medical colleges, at a cost of 1570 crores.

The decision was made today in New Delhi during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over.

Following the Cabinet meeting, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya told the media that each nursing college would receive a grant of 10 crore rupees. There is a growing need for BSc nurses everywhere, including in India, and the opening of new nursing schools would assist meet this demand, he reckoned. These nursing institutions will be established in 24 months, he promised.
