Dead Man Walking! Deceased of Hi-Tech Hospital Blast Claims to be “Alive”

Bhubaneswar: All were shocked when a deceased of the Hi-Tech Hospital explosion incident in Bhubaneswar, previously identified as Dilip Samantray was found alive ‘alive’ as another victim claimed himself to be Dilip.

Four persons were seriously injured in the blast at the private medical college hospital on December 29. Two of them passed away, and the other two are undergoing treatment. Notably, the blast had taken place during AC gas filling at the hospital.

On December 30, an injured died and he was identified as Dilip Samantray of Khurda.

But another injured man under treatment, who was earlier identified as Jyoti Ranjan Mallik, has now started to claim that he is Dilip Samantray.

Speaking to newsmen, Smita Padhi, CEO, Hi-Tech Hospital, said, “The four injured persons were workers of an outsourcing agency. After the explosion, a staff of the agency identified them, on the basis of which the hospital maintained the identification record. The kin of the victims also identified them.”

According to her, the man identified as Dilip Samantray, died during treatment on December 30. As per protocol, the local police was informed and his family members also signed the concerned documents before receiving the body from the police.

On January 4 evening, a person still being treated under the name Jyoti Ranjan Mallik informed the doctors that his real name was Dilip Samantray.

Immediately a psychiatrist evaluated the patient. The patient provided all information about Dilp Samantray as well as his family.

An interesting fact is that Jyoti Ranjan Mallik’s father and brother were attendants of the patient, and for some reason never suspected that he was really Dilip Samantray.

The impasse related to the identity of the patient is yet to be resolved. So, the High-Tech Medical College and Hospital authorities have lodged a complaint with the Mancheswar police.

If required, DNA analysis will be done to ascertain the identity of the concerned man.
