12 Killed In Mizoram Stone Quarry Collapse, Rescue Ops Underway

Aizwal: A total of 12 people were confirmed to have died at Maudarh village in south Mizoram’s Hnahthial district in a stone quarry collapse.

Meanwhile, rescue operation is going on and at least eight bodies have been retrieved so far, reports said.

According to police, a total of 15 people were working when a massive landslide occurred at the stone quarry.

At least five excavators and other drilling machines have been buried under the debris of the quarry.

Eyewitnesses said that the workers had dug too deep and had upset the stability of the stone quarry resulting in the entire hill coming down on the workers.

On being informed, the State Disaster Response Force, Mizoram Armed police personnel, Border Security Force, and Assam Rifles troopers and volunteers of Young Mizo Association continued their joint rescue operation since the disaster happened.

Rescue operation is going on and will continue till all the missing persons are found, reports added.
