4 Arrested For Selling Fake Rs 1 Cr Glasses That ‘Show People Naked’

Chennai: A gang of four men was apprehended from Chennai over allegations of selling eyeglasses that would allow the wearer to see through clothing, in other words, show people naked. The gang, which was run by a 39-year-old businessman from Bengaluru, targeted wealthy businessmen by taking them to a secret place for testing and selling them these fake glasses for Rs 1 crore.

R Suriya from Bengaluru and his aides Ghubabib (37), Jithu Jayan (24) and S Irshad (21) from Kerala were identified as the accused. They were taken into custody by police from a Kodambakkam hotel.

The police were able to nab the gang following a complaint from a dealer in Chennai who claimed Suriya defrauded him of Rs 5 lakh by promising to sell him antiques. The man went to see Suriya when he found out he was in the city to get his money back. After being threatened by Suriya and his helpers with a fake gun, the trader lodged an FIR. Each of the four suspects was presented before a magistrate and placed in judicial custody.

According to the police, the suspects took unwitting consumers to a hidden place to try on the eyeglasses after showing them films of how the devices operate. Police claimed that the group even hired nude models to pose in a dark room where the trials were held.

Police added that the gang members stated they had succeeded in selling three pairs of eyeglasses and that Suriya, the leader, had another scheme to make money by selling businessmen a “rice-pulling vessel.” According to investigators, the accused claimed that the vessel was made of copper and iridium and acquired extraordinary abilities when struck by lightning. They added that the men took advantage of the businessmen’s superstitions.
