Map Analysis: Is China Actually Smaller than India?

New Delhi: Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Naravane recently made a statement on social media that drew attention to ongoing territorial disputes between India and China. General Naravane posted a map on a social platform, humorously remarking, “Finally someone has got the map of China as it really is.” The map depicted various regions as “occupied,” notably Tibet and Ladakh.

This development followed China’s release of the 2023 edition of its “standard map of China” on August 28, which claimed territories such as Taiwan, the South China Sea, Arunachal Pradesh, and Aksai Chin as Chinese territories. India promptly rejected this “standard map,” asserting its sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin. New Delhi also lodged a strong protest with Beijing, emphasizing that such actions only complicate the resolution of the ongoing boundary dispute.

General Naravane’s social media post highlights the ongoing tension and conflicting territorial claims between India and China, which remain a source of concern in the region. This public exchange underscores the need for diplomatic efforts to address and resolve these contentious issues.
