2 Sluice Gates of Hirakud Dam Opened

Sambalpur: Two sluice gates of Hirakud Dam were opened up at 4 pm on Wednesday keeping in view the possible heavy rains in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi river.

As it is expected that heavy rains may occur in the upper catchment area of the river in the coming few days, two more sluice gates were opened to release the possible flood water entering the reservoir.

People in the low-lying areas were warned about the opening of these sluice gates and were advised not to venture into the river bed.

According to reports, one gate was opened on each side of the dam.
