10 More Sluice Gates Opened, Hirakud Dam Releases Floodwater Through 16 Gates

Sambalpur: Ten more sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam were opened up on Friday to release the floodwater entering the reservoir because of the rains in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi river.

Now floodwater is being released from the Hirakud Dam through 16 sluice gates to maintain the water level of the reservoir.

On Thursday, six gates of the Hirakud Dam were opened up.

As the sluice gates are being opened up to release flood water, the people living in the low-lying areas were warned not to venture into the Mahanadi river bed.
