6 More Sluice Gates Opened, Hirakud Dam Releases Flood Water Through 20 Gates

Sambalpur: Six more sluice gates of Hirakud Dam were opened up on Friday to release the flood water entering the reservoir because of the continuous rains in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi river.

At present, the flood water is being released through a total of 20 sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam.

On Thursday, 14 gates of Hirakud Dam were kept open to evacuate the flood water.

With the opening of more sluice gates, people in the low-lying areas have been warned not to venture into the Mahanadi river bed. But authorities have clarified that till now there is no threat of any flood situation in the state.
