4 More Sluice Gates Opened, Hirakud Dam Releases Flood Water through 14 Gates

Sambalpur: As flood water entering the reservoir is increasing due to continuous rains in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi river, four more sluice gates of Hirakud Dam were opened up on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier on Thursday morning eight gates of Hirakud Dam were opened up to evacuate the flood water.

At present, the flood water is being released from a total of 14 sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam.

With the opening of more sluice gates, people in the low-lying areas have been warned not to venture into the Mahanadi river bed. But authorities have clarified that till now there is no threat of any flood situation in teh state.
