Delhi Woman Robs Own Home Because “Mother Loved Sister More”

New Delhi: In a shocking incident in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, a 31-year-old woman, identified as Shweta, was arrested for breaking into her mother’s home and stealing jewellery and cash worth lakhs. The incident came to light when the victim, Kamlesh, reported the robbery at her Sevak Park residence on January 30.

According to Kamlesh’s complaint, gold and silver jewellery valued at lakhs, along with ₹25,000 in cash, were stolen between 2 pm and 2:30 pm. Despite no signs of forced entry, the police, after reviewing CCTV footage, identified a woman in a burqa entering the home suspiciously.

During the investigation, Shweta, the elder daughter of Kamlesh, was apprehended. Shweta confessed to planning the burglary due to feelings of jealousy and hatred towards her younger sister, claiming her mother favoured her sibling more. She also mentioned having some debts, which prompted her to execute the elaborate theft.

Shweta revealed that she strategically moved out of her mother’s home in January, and during this period, Kamlesh assisted her in setting up her new residence. Exploiting this opportunity, Shweta stole the keys to her mother’s house. On the day of the robbery, she used the keys to enter, wearing a burqa she had donned in a public toilet. After successfully executing the theft, she pretended ignorance when Kamlesh discovered the crime, ensuring she remained unsuspected.

The police recovered the stolen jewellery, some of which Shweta claimed belonged to her. She had reportedly sold the items to settle her debts. The arrest sheds light on the complex dynamics within the family that led to this unfortunate incident in Uttam Nagar.
