Mobile Thief Pretending As Cop Nabbed in Rourkela

Rourkela: Brahmani Tarang Police in Rourkela arrested a criminal who had been stealing cell phones from people pretending to be a police officer.

The accused, identified as Jagannath Bhagat, a resident of the Bonai area, had 33 stolen mobile phones found in his residence by the police.

Bhagat used to go inside phone showrooms pretending to be a police officer and used to steal phones after distracting the shop owner.

The accused responded, “I used to cheat people and flee with their mobile phones while pretending to be a police officer,” when questioned about the crime. I kept the stolen phones in my room and made some money off of selling some of them.

People are afraid of the police, therefore I used a police uniform to steal mobile phones, claimed Bhagat.

“We have seized 33 cell phones from the burglar. In order to distract people, he would pretend to be a police officer and steal their cell phones, according to Panposh SDPO Shanta Nutan Samad.

Because they believed it was pointless to file a complaint against a police official, the victims typically were hesitant to do so, she continued.

The thief used to operate not only in Brahmani Tarang but also in other parts of Rourkela.
