Delhi Court Issues Summons to Former WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Singh in Sexual Harassment Case

New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court has summoned Brij Bhushan Singh, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Wrestling Chief of India, in response to allegations of sexual harassment made by leading female wrestlers in the country. The court issued the summons after considering a charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police, which included charges of assault, making sexually coloured remarks, and stalking under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Vinod Tomar, a former Assistant Secretary of Singh, has also been summoned in connection with the case. The court hearing is scheduled for July 18.

The charge sheet, spanning over 1,000 pages, includes statements from approximately 200 witnesses. Last week, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate transferred the case to the court of ACMM Jaspal, who specializes in handling cases involving MPs and MLAs. The complainants’ lawyer was directed to apply for a certified copy of the charge sheet at the court’s copying agency.

According to the FIR lodged at Connaught Place police station, six adult wrestlers have accused Singh of various acts of sexual harassment, including attempts to coerce one athlete into sexual acts, inviting another wrestler to his bed, and assaulting and inappropriately touching other athletes.
