Farooq Abdullah Confirms National Conference-Congress Alliance for J&K Assembly polls

New Delhi: The National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah confirmed that his party will have an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

According to him, both parties have agreed in principle to join hands for the Assembly polls and talks on seat-sharing talks are underway.

Leaders from the National Conference and Congress held a late-night meeting in Srinagar to discuss the details of the alliance. According to sources, Congress is planning to contest 12 seats in the Kashmir Valley, while offering 12 seats to the NC in the Jammu region. No final decision on seat sharing has been reached yet.

Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls and political activity has intensified in the region after a gap of six years. The upcoming Assembly polls will take place in three phases — September 18, September 25 and October 1. Results are expected to be declared on October 4.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls are historic as it is happening after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, after which it was bifurcated and became a Union Territory, with Ladakh becoming a separate UT without a legislature.
