Passenger Opens Emergency Door On Flight; DGCA Orders Probe After 2 Months

New Delhi: A passenger on an Indigo flight spread fear and panic among other passengers when he opened the emergency door on December 10, 2022. The flight was on its way from Chennai to Trivandrum.

A passenger opened an emergency door, frightening the other passengers on December 10, 2022, on an IndiGo 6E flight from Chennai to Trivandrum, flight 6E-7339. A probe of the situation has been ordered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Earlier, on November 26 last year, a man by the name of Shankar Mishra is accused of peeing on a 70-year-old woman when she was intoxicated in business class on an Air India aircraft.

A case was registered against him under Indian Penal Code sections 294 (obscene act in public place), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) as well as under Aircraft Rules.

Delhi Police registered the First Information Report (FIR) against him on January 4 on a complaint given by the woman to Air India under sections 354, 509, and 510 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 23 of the Indian Aircraft Act. Both the accused and the victim are from outside Delhi.

Shankar Mishra said in his bail application that he will cooperate with the police in the future as well as during the inquiry in any way or form needed.
