Israeli Filmmaker Nadav Lapid Apologises For His Remarks On The Kashmir Files

New Delhi: Israeli scriptwriter Nadav Lapid, the head of the IFFI jury, has reportedly apologised after calling “The Kashmir Files” by Vivek Ranjan Agnohotri a “vulgar propaganda”.

Nadav claimed that he didn’t intend to offend anyone and that insulting those who have endured suffering or their loved ones has never been his goal. He added that he sincerely regrets how his statements were interpreted. Nadav said that he spoke on behalf of the entire jury and that his remarks represented not just his own views but also those of his fellow jurors.

“I didn’t want to insult anyone. My aim was never to insult the people or their relatives, who have suffered. I totally apologise if that’s the way they interpreted it,” Lapid, who has left the country since his remarks at the closing ceremony of the 53rd edition of the festival in Goa this week, told in an apology statement while speaking to a media outlet.

“But at the same time, whatever I said and I said clearly that for me and my fellow jury members, it was and it is a vulgar propaganda movie that didn’t have a place and was inappropriate for such a prestigious competitive section. I can repeat it again and again,” he added.

Responding to Nadav’s remarks against the movie, Agnihotri had declared he would stop making movies if intellectuals, including Lapid, could show that the events in his movie were false or fabricated.
