Mamata Banerjee Mocks NRC, Asks People To Get Enrolled On Electoral Roll To Avoid Detention

Kolkata: Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while attending a public event on Wednesday, asked the state’s eligible voters to make sure to get themselves enrolled on the electoral roll or else they might end up in detention camps.

In Kolkata, at a state government-sponsored event on land distribution, Mamata Banerjee declared, “Poor people can’t be evicted. I’ve heard that railways have forcibly evicted people under the guise of building a flyover without providing them with proper compensation. I won’t permit anyone to drive out migrants from West Bengal.”

She urged attendees at the public event to start protests if their land is seized forcibly and that the state will be with them.

“Make sure your name is on the voter list otherwise you will be transferred to detention camps in the name of the NRC, It’s a shame, shame, and shame,” she continued.

Banerjee further charged that the centre “had not released cash for 100 days of work.”

“Fertiliser is not provided to farmers by the Center. Even a letter to them has been sent by us. If non-cooperation persists, we may have to consider producing fertiliser on our own in the future” said Banerjee.

At the occasion, Banerjee distributed 4,701 Land RoRs to underprivileged families from around Bengal.
