Manipur Violence: One Killed as Armed Assailants Attack Village

Imphal: A person was killed when armed assailants attacked the village defence force at Laimaton Thangbuh village in the Kangpokpi district of Manipur on Sunday.

Following the ethnic clashes on May 3, the women and children from the village had been moved out to the Churachandpur relief camp. Members of the village defence force were guarding the deserted village.

The members of the village defence force were attacked by a group of around 30 armed people. One person was killed in the firing.

According to official sources, the attackers preferred to escape after personnel of the Assam Rifles reached the spot.

A woman was killed in Imphal West on Saturday. Police have arrested nine people in connection with the woman’s killing.

The ethnic clashes in Manipur since May 3 have so far claimed more than 160 lives.
