Thane: Prashant Suresh Bhojane, aged 32, fulfilled his long-cherished dream of cracking the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, securing the 849th rank in the 2023 Civil Services Examination (CSE). Hailing from Maharashtra’s Thane, Prashant’s journey to success was marked by determination and perseverance.

Initially embarking on his UPSC journey in 2015, Prashant finally achieved his goal on his ninth attempt. His victory was a source of jubilation for the residents of Khartan Road Sweepers Colony, where his family resides. Celebrations ensued, with locals and politicians joining in to commemorate his achievement.

Prashant’s mother serves as a sweeper with the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), while his father is employed in a similar capacity. Despite completing his engineering degree, Prashant harboured a strong desire to pursue a career in civil services, shunning opportunities in his field of study.

Speaking to the media, Prashant highlighted his dedication to both studying and earning a livelihood, recounting his employment at a competitive exam coaching centre in Delhi since 2020. Despite parental concerns urging him to return home, Prashant remained resolute in his pursuit of success.

Expressing his joy, Prashant’s father, Suresh Bhojane, acknowledged his initial apprehensions about his son’s career choice, now proud of his achievement. Jagdish Kairalia, general secretary of the ‘Shramik Janata Sangh Union,’ emphasized the significance of Prashant’s success, underscoring the talent within the sweeper community and citing him as a beacon of inspiration for the locality.
