Non-Veg Ban In DU’s Hansraj College; Principal Responds

New Delhi: Delhi University’s Hansraj College ceased offering non-vegetarian food to students in the canteen or hostel after the offline mode of study resumed after the Covid pandemic, according to news agency ANI.

The Principal of Hansraj College Professor Rama stated that the college ceased offering non-vegetarian food roughly three to four years ago and that the current decision had to have been made with the students’ approval in mind.

“I’m not sure exactly when the serving of non-vegetarian meals was discontinued. The decision to discontinue selling non-vegetarian meals must have been made three to four years ago, but the committee must have spoken with students before making the choice,” said Prof. Rama.

At Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), scuffles were reportedly reported the previous year after members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) allegedly stopped other left-leaning students from eating non-vegetarian meals on Ram Navami. The mess secretary of the campus’ Kaveri Hostel was allegedly assaulted by the ABVP student leaders.

In contrast, the ABVP claimed that left-leaning students were interfering with Ram Navami prayers at the Kaveri Hostel.
