Minister Urges Opposition Parties to Reconsider Boycott of Parliament Building Inauguration

New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi expressed his disappointment with the decision of 19 opposition parties to boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building.

He urged them to reconsider their stance, considering it an unfortunate move. The upcoming inauguration on Sunday will be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The opposition parties argue that President Droupadi Murmu should perform the honours since she not only serves as the Head of State but also plays an integral role in Parliament, summoning sessions, proroguing them, and delivering addresses.

In response, Joshi addressed the media in Delhi, where he labelled the opposition’s boycott as an unnecessary controversy. He appealed to the parties to reconsider their decision and participate in the event. Joshi highlighted that the Lok Sabha Speaker, as the custodian of Parliament, extended an invitation to the Prime Minister, who is the head of the government, to inaugurate the new building.
