President of Egypt Arrives in India; Prez Murmu, PM Modi Extend Ceremonial Welcome

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at a ceremonial reception on Wednesday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

El-Sisi has been invited to India to attend the Republic Day celebrations on January 26 as the chief guest. The head of state of Egypt will visit India for four days, from January 24 to January 27. While here, he will meet with President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday, with a retinue that included five ministries and senior Egyptian officials.

The visit marks the first time that the President of Egypt has been invited as the chief guest on India’s Republic Day. India and Egypt continue to have close ties, and India invited Cairo to be a “guest country” during its G20 Presidency.
