Shiv Sena Leader Sudhir Suri Shot Dead in Amritsar

Amritsar: Tension and terror engulfed the city of Amritsar after controversial Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead today. Assailants shot at him near Gopal Mandir on Majitha Road of Amritsar.

Receiving information, police rushed to the spot, and Suri was transported to a private hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors.

According to eyewitnesses, Suri was taking part in a protest rally related to temple management in front of the Gopal Mandir temple. A group of armed assailants had reached the spot to start an abusive argument with Suri. A few minutes later one of them shot at Suri.

Police managed to apprehend the accused. The pistol used in the killing was also seized from his possession.

The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. It is suspected that political rivalry may be the cause behind the attack.

The incident has left the city horrified. Police officials appealed to the general public to keep calm and not give any scope for communalisation of the issue. Tension continues in Amritsar following the killing. Security has been heightened throughout the city to avoid the possibility of clashes.
