Skirmish Ensues In Bengal School Over Hijab & Namabali

Howrah: A scuffle between two groups of students over the wearing of the hijab and namabali forced a school in Howrah, West Bengal, to cancel ongoing exams.

A commotion broke out at Dhulagori Adarsh Vidyalaya, Howrah when members of one group showed up wearing ‘namabalis’ (saffron scarves) as a form of protest against the other group, who were permitted to wear hijabs in class. The fight resulted in the school’s property being damaged by the students.

Police officers and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) were dispatched to the area as soon as things got out of hand. The circumstances led the school administration to postpone the Class 11 and 12 exams.

Following the event, the school’s management committee presided over a meeting where it was mandated that students would now need to wear their school uniforms to class.
