Sri Lanka Seeks India’s Support To Boost Milk Production

Colombo: Ranil Wickremasinghe, the President of Sri Lanka, has urged India for help in replicating the white revolution in the island nation.

Sri Lanka will receive technical assistance from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Amul to boost milk production.

In order to improve local milk production, Mr. Wickremasinghe has created a committee that will work with NDDB to develop a short-, medium-, and long-term plan. With 22% of the world’s milk production, India is the greatest producer in the world.

Although there has been a 34% rise in milk production between 2015 and 2021, Sri Lanka is still far from being self-sufficient.

The nation imports 22 million pounds of dairy products each year, totaling more than $300 million USD.
