Suspecting Spying by Modi Govt, Sharad Pawar Denies Z-Plus Security Cover

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-SP chief Sharad Pawar is said to have turned down his security upgrade to the Z-plus category, reported The Telegraph. He had pointed out that the Centre’s move was an attempt to spy on him ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls.

A week back, the Centre had accorded Z-plus, the highest category of armed VIP security cover to Sharad Pawar.

Reacting to this sudden decision, Pawar had told reporters that the security cover accorded to him could be an arrangement to get “authentic information” about him as the Maharashtra Assembly polls were around the corner.

He also added that he was not told about the reason behind the sudden security upgrade.

Sharad Pawar is said to have declined the security enhancement proposal to deploy additional security personnel inside his house in Delhi, change the vehicle he uses to travel within the city and that he be escorted by two security personnel inside his car, reported The Telegraph quoting a Home Ministry official.

Pawar’s NCP-SP is a part of the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), along with the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress.
