US Prez Joe Biden Hails ‘Historic’ Air India-Boeing Deal

Washington, D.C: Air India’s decision to buy more than 200 aircraft from Boeing was welcomed by US President Joe Biden, who described it as a “historic agreement between Tata-owned airlines and Boeing.”

Reacting to the development, Biden said, “United States can and will lead the world in manufacturing. I am proud to announce today the purchase of over 200 American-made aircraft through a historic agreement between Air India and Boeing.”

“This purchase will support over one million American jobs across 44 states, and many will not require a four-year college degree. This announcement also reflects the strength of US-India economic partnership,” Joe Biden said in an official statement released by The White House.

In addition, Biden stated that he was looking forward to strengthening ties between India and the US with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reports suggest that Air India would pay Boeing $34 billion for up to 220 jets, with an option to acquire an additional 70 planes, which may bring the overall transaction value to $45.9 billion.

The Air India order ranks third in terms of quantity of aircraft purchased and second in cash value among all sales made by Boeing.
