12-Year-Old Boy Averts Major Train Accident in West Bengal

Malda (WB): In a remarkable display of quick thinking and bravery, a 12-year-old boy named Mursaleen Sheikh in West Bengal averted a potential train accident. The incident unfolded near a railway yard in Malda, West Bengal, last Thursday.

Young Mursaleen is the son of a migrant worker employed at the railway yard. On that fateful day, he was present at the yard with some of the workers when he noticed a section of railway tracks had been damaged. To make matters more urgent, a passenger train was hurtling towards the compromised section of track.

Without hesitation, Mursaleen sprang into action. He removed his red t-shirt and began vigorously waving it as a flag to alert the oncoming train. Thankfully, the locomotive pilot spotted the signal and reacted swiftly by applying the emergency brakes, preventing a potential catastrophe.

Sabyasachi De, the spokesperson for North-East Frontier Railway, commended the young hero’s actions, stating, “A 12-year-old child in Malda waved his red shirt at the train, due to which the loco-pilot applied emergency brakes and stopped the passenger train. The child did this because the railway track was damaged due to heavy rains.”

The officials lauded Mursaleen for his quick thinking and praised him for his alertness in a critical situation. As a token of appreciation, the railway authorities honoured him with a certificate of bravery and a cash prize. Additionally, the local Member of Parliament and the divisional rail manager paid a visit to Mursaleen’s home to convey their congratulations.

Following the incident, the damaged section of the railway track was promptly repaired, and normal operations resumed without further incident. Mursaleen’s heroic actions serve as a shining example of courage and presence of mind in the face of adversity, reminding us all that heroism can emerge from unexpected places.
