Woman Receives Triple Talaq Over WhatsApp for Donating Kidney to Brother

Lucknow: A woman received triple-talaq from her husband on WhatsApp after she donated a kidney to her ailing brother.

The woman lives in Bairiyahi village in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, while her husband is employed in Saudi Arabia.

In the recent past, the woman made a bold decision to donate one of her kidneys to save her brother. But her husband did not appreciate her noble act and gave her triple-talaq soon after she sent a message to inform him about the kidney donation. He sent the triple-talaq to her through WhatsApp message.

The aggrieved woman has lodged a complaint regarding this triple talaq with the police. Since 2019, the practice of triple talaq has been declared illegal and unconstitutional in India.

As per the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, a man can be punished up to three years in jail for opting for triple-talaq.
