1 Dead 7 Injured as Groom’s Car Runs Over Baratis in Bolangir

Bolangir: The joy and frolic of a marriage procession turned into a tragic scene of death and injuries when the groom’s car lost control and ran over the dancing baratis in Bolangir district on Friday night. One person was killed and seven others were seriously injured in this accident that occurred during a marriage procession.

The driver of the groom’s car was alleged to be in an inebriated state, because of which he caused the accident. This marriage procession was scheduled to start from the Bagjharan village and reach Hirli village. Before the bridegroom could take his seat in the car, its driver who was under the influence of alcohol hit the baratis dancing in front of the vehicle.

One ill-fated man died on the spot. He was identified as Raj Bariha of Bagjharan village. Seven others were injured in the accident. The injured were admitted to Bolangir District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Khaprakhol Police reached the spot and took the driver into custody for interrogation.
