19% Increase in the Number of Indian Students in the US

More and more Indian students are flocking to study in American Universities. The number of Indian students studying in American universities increased by 19 per cent in 2021-22 in comparison to the previous year. This was stated in the Open Doors Report, an annual survey on international students.

As per the report, in 2020-21, a total of 1,67, 582 Indian students were studying in America. Their number increased to 1,99,182 during 2021-22. Most Indian students pursue higher education in the US. A decade back in 2012-13, there were 96,654 students of Indian origin in American Universities.

American government issued 82,000 visas to Indian students between June and August, which is the highest number among all countries. So, in 2022-23 number of Indian students in America may exceed the number of Chinese students in the US.

The largest chunk of foreign students in America is from India and China. In 2021-22, students from these two countries accounted for 52 per cent of all international students in the US.
