5 Cops among 17 Arrested for Involvement in Pak-Sponsored Drug Smuggling in J&K

Srinagar: A drug trafficking racket originating from Pakistan was busted by security personnel in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. There were five policemen among the 17 persons arrested for their involvement in this drug smuggling racket.

This group was getting the drugs supply from areas near LoC and then they were supplying it to different parts of Kashmir, police sources said.

The drugs were coming from Pakistan through the Keran sector in Kupwara district.

Shakir Ali Khan, a resident of Keran who is now based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, was supplying drugs to his son Tamheed Ahmad living in Keran.

Interrogation of drug peddlers of Kupwara and further investigation led to the unearthing of this organized large-scale drug trafficking racket originating from Pakistan.

This group had allegedly received five kilograms of heroin. Out of it, two kilograms have been recovered so far.

The involvement of police personnel posted near the Line of Control in cross-border drug trafficking has become a new worry for security personnel posted in the area.
