Against RSS Marches, Tamil Nadu Govt Approaches SC

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu government approached the Supreme Court against the Madras High Court order permitting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to take out a march in the state. A bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear the Tamil Nadu government’s plea regarding it on March 3.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared for the TN government before a Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha. The bench took note of the submissions of, that the plea needed an urgent hearing as this proposed march of the RSS is scheduled to commence in Namil Nadu from March 5.

“I am asking for a Friday hearing,” the senior urged. “We will keep it on Friday,” the bench said.

On February 10, the Madras High Court permitted the RSS to take out its route march in Tamil Nadu with the remark that protests are essential for a healthy democracy.
