Bad Weather & Rain Stalls Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir

Srinagar: Because of heavy rain and bad weather Amarnath Yatra was suspended for the time being on Friday. The Yatra will resume when the weather improves.

According to officials, the trek of the Yatris to the cave shrine has been halted for the safety of the pilgrims. The yatra was suspended along both the Baltal and the Pahalgam routes.

At present, there are 3,200 pilgrims stationed at Pahalgam and 4,000 at Baltal base camp. While a batch of 4,600 pilgrims on its way to the Pahalgam base camp have been stopped in Chanderkote, another group of 2,410 devotees travelling to the Baltal camp has been allowed to proceed.

On Thursday, 17,202 pilgrims had darshan of the ice Shiva Linga in the holy cave shrine. Till now 84,768 have visited the cave shrine.

The 62-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-metre-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas commenced from the twin tracks of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district on July 1. The annual Amarnath Yatra will end on August 31.
