Ban on internet in Punjab extended till Tuesday; Search for Khalistani Leader Amritpal Singh continues

Chandigarh: The Punjab government extended curbs on mobile internet and SMS services till Tuesday noon as search continues to nab the self-styled radical Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh. Earlier Punjab government had declared that these curbs on internet and SMS services will be in force till Monday noon.

Punjab Police launched a massive crackdown on Saturday to arrest Amritpal Singh. The search operation of Punjab Police for this Khalistan sympathizer radical leader entered third day on Monday. The Punjab government has declared him to be a fugitive. Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh’s driver Harpreet and uncle Harijeet surrendered before Punjab police in Mehatpur on Sunday night, reported India Today.

Punjab police continue crackdown on Amritpal Singh-backed Waris Punjab De organization. On Sunday more than 34 persons were arrested in connection to the organization taking the total number of arrests in this case 112.

On Sunday Punjab police conducted flag marches at several places to maintain law and order. Prohibitions under Section 144 of the CrPc, which prohibits congregations, was imposed in the union territory of Chandigarh and other places of Punjab.
