BJP still the Wealthiest Party in India; BJD 2nd Rich Regional Party

New Delhi: As per Election Commission data, BJP’s total income rose from Rs 752.33 cr in 2020-21 to Rs 1917.12 cr in 2021-22 to make it the richest political party in India. BJP showed 155 per cent growth in its income.

The second position as per earnings was grabbed by Trinamul Congress (TMC), which had Rs 545.75 cr income in 2021-22. According to the annual audit reports of the eight recognized national political parties for the year 2021-22 published by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the income of TMC rose by 633 per cent compared to the previous financial year. In 2020-21, TMC’s total income was Rs 74.42 cr.

Congress party also increased its income by 89.4 per cent during the same period. Its income in 2020-21 was Rs 285.76 cr. It increased to Rs 541.27 cr during 2021-22.

But earnings of CPI (M) declined from Rs 171.05 in 2020-21 to Rs 162.24 cr in 2021-22.

Among the regional parties, DMK was the richest with earnings of Rs 318.75 cr. It was closely followed by Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) with an annual income of Rs 307.29 cr during 2021-22.

The national parties recognized by the ECI received Rs 3289 cr as donations and contributions in 2021-22. Out of it 58 per cent went to BJP.
