Blast at Afghanistan Madrassa Kills 16 and Injures 24

At least 16 persons died and 24 others were injured when a blast occurred by a blast at a madrassa in Afghanistan’s Aybak city on Wednesday.

Quoting a doctor treating the injured, AFP reported that the deceased were mostly youngsters from ordinary families. This blast occurred at Al Jihad madrassa of Aybak city.

Playing down the number of deaths the Taliban said 10 students had died and “many others” were injured.

“Our detective and security forces are working quickly to identify the perpetrators of this unforgivable crime and punish them for their actions,” tweeted Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafay Takor.

In September, at least 54 persons including 51 girls and young women were killed when a suicide bomber made an explosion at a hall in Kabul packed with students. Since the Taliban came to power similar blasts have occurred near schools targeting students.
