Britain’s Deputy PM Resigns over Bullying Allegation; Was Close Aide of PM Rishi Sunak

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s close aide and England’s Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab resigned on Friday because of allegations that he bullied staff members while working as a cabinet minister of different UK government departments.

An independent report into allegations made by several civil servants against Raab was handed over to Sunak on Thursday. Apart from being the Deputy PM, Raab was also the UK Justice Secretary.

Sunak was under pressure to take action against Raab, a staunch supporter of his leadership for the Conservative Party and government during the campaign last year.

British PM’s office had earlier said that Sunak was “not aware” of any formal complaints against Raab when he appointed him in October last year. But the Opposition Labour Party accused Sunak of ignoring reports about Raab’s conduct.

Raab’s resignation will lead to a mini reshuffle in the British Cabinet. It is felt that Sunak may not refill the post of Deputy PM. He may only appoint a new Justice Secretary.
