By Drowning a Rat in Drain, UP Man Lands in Legal Trouble

Budaun: A man of Budaun in Uttara Pradesh had tied a piece of brick to the tail of a rat to drown the rodent in a drain. He now faces the ire of an animal rights activist and possible legal action.

The bizarre manner in which this man had tried to kill the rat was filmed by an animal rights activist Vikendra Sharma. This video was uploaded on social media platforms. Sharma also filed a complaint with the police regarding the alleged misdeed of the man named Manoj Kumar.

Manoj had drowned a rat in a drain after tying a stone to its tail. Vikendra had also tried to save the rodent. But unfortunately, the rat died after some time.

The accused Manoj has been booked under section 429  of IPC, along with section 11 (1) (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, at Sadar Kotwali police station of Budaun.

The dead rodent was sent to a veterinary hospital in Buduan for a forensic exam. But its staff refused to conduct the forensic examination, the body of the mouse was sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly.
