Centre’s Nod to Development of Airstrip in Mayurbhanj District

Bhubaneswar: Adding new wings to the future of air travel in Odisha, a new airstrip will come up at Rasagobindapur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The land on which this airstrip will be constructed was under the Defence Research and Development (DRDO) of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Meanwhile, the MoD has permitted the development of the airstrip at Rasagobindapur.  near Amarda Road in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

“The President of India has granted working permission to the government of Odisha on defence land admeasuring 160.35 acres at Amarda Road in the district of Mayurbhanj for development of airstrip at Rasagobindapur near Amarda Road in Mayurbhanj district, on the basis of cash compensation amounting to Rs 26,03,10,4381 in lieu of defence land,” stated the letter of the MoD sent to Odisha Chief Secretary.

In February, the Odisha government had written to the Defence secretary for permission to develop the airstrip near Rasagobindapur under the RCS-UDAN scheme.

The Rasagovindpur airstrip is expected to give a boost to the tourism prospects of Simlipal National Park, Kuldiha Sanctuary, Chandipur & Talsari beaches.
