New Delhi: A man posed as an employee of the Abu Dhabi royal family to stay at Leela Palace, a luxury hotel in Delhi, for four months. He escaped from the hotel not paying a huge bill of Rs 23 lakh.

Leela Palace Hotel management filed a complaint of fraud and theft against the man with Delhi Police on Saturday. A search is on to nab this cheat, who had identified himself as Mohammed Sharif.

This cheat had stayed in Room 427 of the Leela Palace from August 1, 2022, till he silently vanished on November 20, 2022. He is also alleged to have taken away silver utensils and a pearl tray of the hotel.

During the check-in, this man claimed that he was from UAE and was a close associate of Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the Abu Dhabi royal family. The business card, UAE resident card, and other documents shown by him at the hotel are suspected to be fake.

His total bill for four-month stay at the hotel was Rs 35 lakh. He paid Rs 11.5 lakh. But he never paid up the rest amount. Using CCTV footage, police are trying to unravel the real identity of this cheat.
