Disproportionate Property Case Against Shivakumar; SC Adjourns Hearing to July 14

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the CBI’s plea that challenged a Karnataka High Court order granting an interim stay on the probe into a disproportionate assets case against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar to July 14.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Shivakumar, informed the apex court that the matter was coming up before the high court on May 23. Following it, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sanjay Karol deferred the matter to July 14.

The Karnataka High Court had on February 10 stayed the CBI proceedings in a corruption case against Shivakumar which was further extended on different dates.

In 2017, Shivakumar faced Income Tax raids. Later ED initiated a probe against him. On October 3, 2020, Shivakumar was booked by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Shivakumar approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the CBI proceedings against him, alleging that the CBI was applying mental pressure on him by issuing notices ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, although the case dates back to 2020.
