Donald Trump Arrested; Pleads ‘I am Not Guilty’

Former US president Donald Trump was arrested on Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Florida. He faces criminal charges for unlawfully keeping national security documents when he left presidential office and telling lies to officials who tried to recover them.

But Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to the federal criminal before the court. Trump is the first former president to be charged with federal crimes.

As per the court order, the deputy marshals booked the former president and took his fingerprints, while his aide and co-defendant, Walt Nauta was also arrested, fingerprinted and processed.

Trump’s plea that he is not guilty was registered before US Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman in a federal court in Miami. It will start a legal battle which will become a major issue of discussion when he campaigns to for the president’s post in 2024.

The hearing was closed to cameras and live broadcasts.

Trump had to visit court for criminal charges against him for the second time in recent months. In April, he pleaded not guilty to state charges in New York stemming from a hush-money payment to a porn star.

Trump has alleged that Democratic President Joe Biden’s administration is targeting him.
