Indian-American Nikki Haley Eyes US President’s Post

Indian-American Republican Party leader Nikki Haley is all set to launch her 2024 White House bid on February 15. She will be challenging the candidature of former US president Donald Trump. Haley was born as Nimrata Randhawa to Indian parents who had migrated from Punjab to Canada and then to the US in the 1960s.

Fifty-one-year-old Haley was South Carolina’s governor for six years. After that, she served as President Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations. But after entering the race, she will contest against her former boss Donald Trump, who is currently the only Republican leader seeking his party’s 2024 nomination.

The confirmation that Haley is entering the race came on January 31 from a member of Haley’s inner circle, reported a South Carolina-based newspaper.

“It’s time for a new generation,” she tweeted recently.

“It’s time for new leadership. And it’s time to take our country back. America is worth the fight — and we’re just getting started,” she said.

In an interview to Fox News last month, she said the US needs a “new leader” who can take the country in a new direction.

“And can I be that leader? Yes, I think I can be that leader,” Haley said in that interview.
