Trump Arrives in New York to face Criminal Charges

Former US President Donald Trump will surrender at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday. He reached New York City on his private plane on Monday. He is expected to be fingerprinted before appearing before a judge to plead not guilty.

The former US President will be formally arrested and charged with 34 Class E felonies for falsification of business records on Tuesday. But as per reports, although he faces a criminal charge, he will not be handcuffed, placed in a jail cell, or subjected to a mug shot.

The criminal case against Trump is related to alleged hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. It is one of the several probes Trump faces.

Trump is the first former US president to face criminal charges.

Todd Blanche, a prominent white, collar criminal defence lawyer, and former federal prosecutor, along with other Trump lawyers on Monday urged the judge not to allow videography, photography, and radio coverage of the arraignment.

The Manhattan grand jury has indicted Trump in the case related to a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in the waning days of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Daniels has said she was paid to keep silent about a sexual encounter she had with Trump at a Lake Tahoe hotel in 2006. Trump denies having had any such relationship with her.

As a precautionary measure, New York police have erected barricades near Trump Tower and the Manhattan Criminal Court building as demonstrations were expected at these sites on Tuesday.
