Elderly Woman Dies, 15 Fall Ill After Consuming ‘Prasad’ In Balasore

Balasore: An elderly woman reportedly died while 15 others fell ill after consuming Kheeri prasad in Bahanaga area of Balasore district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Nilamani Sahu (63).

According to reports, an offering of kheer (rice pudding) was offered to the deity during a religious ceremony at Nilamani’s house on Sunday.

After consuming it as prasad, 16 members of her family, including herself, fell sick and were admitted to the Gopalpur Medical Center. Later, two persons were shifted to the Balasore District Hospital after their condition deteriorated.

While Nilamani succumbed to her illness, seven people recovered and were discharged from the hospital. Eight others are currently undergoing treatment at the health facility.
